Hello readers and welcome to EAIII’s Big Brother Blog, a hub of discussion for cases involving privacy rights and intellectual property in the United States. Right to privacy has been (and almost certainly always will be) a polarizing topic that continues to spark debate as to how things should be handled. With the influence of technology on day to day life only increasing, how will the United States government balance people’s right to privacy with maintaining national security? Should the government be allowed to force companies like Apple to circumvent their own encryption features (thereby putting users at risk) under the guise of national security? Should the government have the authority to pre-install backdoors into mobile devices and computers (such as the Clipper Chip)? EAIII’s Big Brother Blog will discuss cases involving these issues over the next few months in an effort to address some of these questions.
